Jay Lim (b.2000) is a Singaporean visual artist working in photography, book arts, and installation. Situated at the intersection of photography and queer theory, his practice documents the lives of people who exist outside of societal norms through research-led and practice-based strategies.

Employing the concept of inscrutable looking, a way of looking at photographs to sense hidden and speculative narratives, Lim’s works position photography as a democratic mode of communication that extends beyond spoken language, inviting viewers to question their assumptions about marginalised communities and complicate the narratives imposed upon them.

He also runs Quiet Press: a self-publishing platform dedicated to quiet photographic storytelling.
