Group Exhibition

(re)semblance brings together four themes: Self, Home, Cultural Identity, Places and Objects. The project, part of the BA (Hons) Photojournalism and Documentary Programme for first-year students, began with each photographer writing themselves a brief, being put into pairs before finding out their partners were in charge of shooting their proposal.

As each project was realised in partnership, clear themes began to emerge that expressed a shared experience. The first-year of a bachelors degree signals a new beginning: Many leaving home, family, language and cultural identity, coming into a new environment, bringing in to new perspectives. Yet in shooting our partner’s project, each individual has somehow returned to what’s important to their own identity. Whilst the exhibition is rooted in personal experiences, housing a diverse range of subject matter, a common thread links them: The basic human instinct for connection.
