in another world is a conversation between Charlie, a British man from Lincoln, and myself. Sparked by a night out in London where we were verbally assaulted for making out, the project explores the intersections and contrasts of our queer experiences. Although we come from entirely different parts of the world, Charlie and I share many similar yet distinct firsts: From our love for ice skating, to allyship, pride, sexual encounters, testing, and exes.
I gave Charlie and myself prompts to answer, such as: Where was your first kiss? or where did you have your first queer encounter? Using a large format film camera (Wista 45N), the series sees us revisit sites that have shaped our queerness, employing the slowed process of a large-format camera as a way to reconnect with these ephemeral moments. Presented as diptychs, the series is not only a conversation between Charlie and myself, but also an attempt to find common ground in our experiences despite our different gay experiences.
